Trekking Mount Kilimanjaro via Marangu route
Hiking take 5-6 days. The route is known as Coca Cola route. You will begin your trek from the Mangu gate, Mandara hut, Horombo hut, Kibo hut and back to Marangu gate.
DAY 1: MARANGU GATE TO MANDARA HUT. Mandara Hut 2,682 m/8,8
Meet your guides and transfer to Marangu gate to complete formalities before setting off on your Kilimanjaro trek. Lunch is taken on the route and in the afternoon at Mandara Hut 2,682meter from the seal level. You may trek to Maundi crater in the afternoon. Overnight Mandara Hut in full board basis.
DAY 2: HOROMBO HUT
Early after breakfast, you trek to Horombo hut 3,718 meter from the sea level. The route has a very steady ad gradual slope. At Horombo hut, you can see Kibo and Mawenzi peaks, two of the three volcanos that make up the summit of Kilimanjaro. Arriving Horombo in the afternoon and relax in your camp. Overnight Horombo Hut on a full board basis.
DAY 3: HOROMBO
An acclimatization day for your hikes to higher altitude which takes you towards the Mawenzi volcano. You may a halfway point of view of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo are spectacular. In the afternoon you return to Horombo hut to relax. Overnight Horombo hut on a full board basis.
DAY 4: HOROMBO TO KIBO.
Hiking to Kibo 4,694 meter from the sea level. Trekking is slow in this low oxygen environment, arriving at Kibo hut in the afternoon. An early dinner is taken and then you climb into your sleeping bags for some rest before your night time departure for the summit. Overnight Kibo Hut on a full board basis.
DAY 5: KIBO TO UHURU PEAK
Early before midnight, you start out from Kibo hut towards the Uhuru peak. The night-time start enables the best chance of a clear summits attempt. It takes 6 hours to reach Gilman’s point and further 11 to 12 hours to reach Uhuru Peak. Congrats, you will descend the same route before a short stop at Kibo Hut for a food refuel and rest. In the evening you descend to Horombo hut for dinner and overnight.
DAY 6: HOROMBO TO MARANGU GATE. Marangu Gate 1,829 m/6,000 ft and return
The descent and experiencing the heath zone and forest to the Marangu gate and transfer to your hotel for a shower and celebratory dinner.
